Doppler Stairway

Right now, you should be standing at the base of the Amazon Doppler stairway along 7th Avenue. Completed in 2015, while The Spheres was in the early stages of design, Doppler was the first landscape to be installed in what would eventually become Amazon’s Urban Arboretum.

The fern-filled woodland landscape of the mid-block corridor hosts a variety of seasonal surprises, from the iridescent blue berries of the evergreen hydrangea (Dichroa febrifuga) to the bold foliage, mysterious flowers, and radiant fruit of the Himalaya cobra lily (Arisaema consanguineum). The lush planting beds are complemented by the sculpture Petros by Julie Spiedel that towers above you.
